Two years ago, if you had told me I'd be writing this success story, I would have laughed. I was the student who barely scraped through Class 10 with 68%, struggled with basic math concepts, and had teachers who had given up on me. Today, I'm a Computer Science student at IIT Delhi, having secured AIR 47 in JEE Advanced. This is my story - not of overnight success, but of transformation through persistence, smart strategies, and a complete mindset overhaul.
The Rock Bottom Moment
It was December 2021, halfway through Class 11. I had just received my physics test results - 12 out of 50. My chemistry wasn't much better, and don't even get me started on mathematics. I remember sitting in my room, staring at the test paper, feeling completely defeated.
My parents had enrolled me in one of the most expensive coaching institutes in Delhi, but I was lost in classes of 200+ students. The pace was too fast, the competition was intimidating, and I felt like I was drowning. That night, I made a decision that would change everything - I decided to take control of my own learning.
The Turning Point: Embracing Self-Study
Step 1: Honest Self-Assessment
I spent an entire weekend analyzing my weaknesses. I listed every topic I didn't understand, every concept that confused me, and every mistake I repeatedly made. The list was overwhelming, but it gave me clarity on where to start.

The Study System That Changed Everything
The 3-2-1 Method
I developed what I called the "3-2-1 Method" for each topic:
- 3 different sources: NCERT, coaching material, and online videos
- 2 levels of practice: Basic problems first, then advanced
- 1 teaching session: Explain the concept to someone else (or record myself)
Active Recall Revolution
Instead of reading and highlighting, I started testing myself constantly. After studying any topic, I would close my books and try to write down everything I remembered. This technique, called active recall, transformed my retention rate.

The hardest part wasn't the academics - it was the mental game. Seeing classmates solve problems I couldn't even understand was demoralizing. I had to learn to focus on my own progress rather than comparing myself to others.
Building Confidence Through Small Wins
I started celebrating small victories - solving a difficult problem, understanding a complex concept, or improving my test score by even 5%. These small wins built momentum and kept me motivated during tough times.
The Support System
I found a study group of 4 friends who were also serious about JEE. We met every Sunday to discuss difficult problems and teach each other concepts. This peer learning was invaluable - explaining concepts to others helped solidify my own understanding.
The Final Push: Last 6 Months
Mock Test Strategy
From October 2022 onwards, I took a mock test every alternate day. But here's the key - I spent 3 hours analyzing each test for every 3 hours I spent taking it. I identified patterns in my mistakes and worked specifically on those areas.

- Identify patterns: Which topics/types of problems cause most errors?

I realized that JEE isn't just about knowing concepts - it's about solving problems quickly and accurately under pressure. I practiced with a stopwatch, timing myself on every problem and gradually reducing the time taken.

JEE Main felt surprisingly manageable. All those months of practice had prepared me well. I scored 99.8 percentile, which gave me the confidence boost I needed for JEE Advanced.
JEE Advanced: The Ultimate Test
JEE Advanced was tough, but I was ready. I had practiced enough difficult problems that even the trickiest questions felt familiar. The key was staying calm and managing time effectively across both papers.
The Result
When the results came out and I saw "AIR 47" next to my name, I couldn't believe it. From a struggling student to being in the top 50 in the country - it felt surreal. But looking back, every hour of struggle, every failed test, every moment of doubt had led to this moment.

Today, as I write this from my hostel room at IIT Delhi, I'm reminded that JEE was just the beginning. The problem-solving skills, persistence, and self-learning abilities I developed during JEE preparation continue to serve me well in my computer science courses.
The transformation from a struggling student to a JEE topper taught me that success isn't about being naturally gifted - it's about being willing to work smart, stay persistent, and never give up on yourself.
